How To Use Instagram Story Highlights for Sponsored Influencer Content…

More and more users are saying goodbye to Snapchat and engaging with Instagram Stories. As of November, more than half of Instagram’s 500 million daily active users share Stories, and new features, like geo-tags and GIFs, are being added every month.

The platform recently launched Instagram Story Highlights, a new tool that lets users hold on to their favorite moments from Instagram Stories and express more of who they are through stories they’ve shared. Previously, Instagram Stories would only last 24 hours before they disappeared (similar to Snapchat’s format). Now, Instagram Stories can be saved to a user’s Highlights, located above the photo feed, allowing them to live on for as long as the user wishes – a major game-changer for content.

Here are a few recommendations we have for influencers looking to optimize their program content using Instagram Story Highlights:

  1. Add links – Accounts with over 10K followers can add links to their Story Highlights. These links stay active indefinitely so whether the link is to a program landing page or a blog story, this tool will help influencers drive more traffic over time.
  2. Create categories – The most successful influencers are knowledgeable or passionate about a certain category, so we encourage them to create specific categories for Story Highlights and add to them over time. While there’s no limit to the number of Highlights a user can create, keep in mind that each Highlight can only have up to 100 photos or videos.
  3. Tell a story – Without a doubt, the most entertaining Instagram Stories are those that actually tell a story. Remember, people follow you on Instagram because they care about you and your life – so create a story for them to better understand what it’s like to be you.
